TIPPMATIC – The solution to your STANDBY concerns – brought to you by Bär switches

Hidden electricity consumption
A high variety of electrical appliances switch to standby mode, either after use or at the end of a program cycle. However, you may not know that in some cases during this state they can use more energy than in normal use.

And that costs you money!

A number of appliances, such as home entertainment systems, indicate they are in standby mode by means of an indicator light. In most instances, these appliances are not actually disconnected from the mains, or it may be possible that the actuating button for that purpose is inaccessibile. This is also true in the case of larger household appliances like washing machines or dishwashers, which switch automatically into standby following completion of their programmed washing cycle. The good news is that this standby mode can be switched off by using a TIPPMATIC / TIPPMATIC PLUS product. All you have to do is set a programmed time or provide a specific signal to act as the trigger to switch itself off.

What does “standby mode” mean?
“Standby mode” in electrical jargon means that your appliance remains “in a state of readiness,” with the result that you can resume using it without waiting for it to warm up. It is precisely this standby mode that makes an appliance consume unnecessary amounts of electrical energy. It is, in fact, questionable whether every appliance needs to be ready to resume immediate operation, for example, in the case of a washing machine at the end of its cycle, it would be almost certainly better for it to be completely disconnected from the mains supply.

Benchmark
IEC 62301 Household electrical appliances - Measurement of standby power

The enforcement of this benchmark means it is a matter of urgency that this issue of standby mode and unnecessary electricity consumption be considered, particularly in the case of household electrics.

Why not let us switch off for you!

Solution
TIPPMATIC – the only real solution for STANDBY – brought to you by Bär switches

TIPPMATIC® / TIPPMATIC PLUS are electronic off-switches manufactured as just two of the many Bär products. They disconnect your appliance off automatically after a predetermined time delay, or when they receive a specific external signal. This alters your appliance from the “stand by” mode, into the completely “off” mode, hence it consumes no electricity. The user thus has more peace of mind, while saving money by avoiding the unnecessary use of electricity.
TIPPMATIC allows for predetermined setting of the switch-off time depending on the requirements of the appliance and comes with 27 different time options, ranging from 60 seconds to 20 hours as standard, and, of course, other switch-off times can be provided if required. The use of an external signal as a trigger will involves synchronization with the signal source.
Thanks to their small size, made possible by electronic integration of the switching system, TIPPMATIC® / TIPPMATIC PLUS are particularly suitable for use in applications where only limited space is available.

Important point: TIPPMATIC® / TIPPMATIC PLUS have no particularly unusual features which could confuse the user, so in fact there is absolutely no difference from a traditional rocker switch, either in appearance or in the method of use. “On” and “off” conditions are indicated, as usual, by the position of the switch actuator together with illumination. Moreover, when necessary, manual override operation enables you to switch off ahead of the predetermined off time.
